Demon Hiranyaksha and its relevance in current times - PART I

Hiranyaksha1

Our ancestors were very clever and wise. They knew that over the years people’s dialect, culture, languages will change. Apart from writing things in scriptures, they presented most of things through pictures and symbols as well so that future generations will be able to understand through these. One such picture is of Hiranyaksha and Varah Avtaar of Lord Vishnu.

General story goes like this - Hiranyaksha was an Asura who captured the entire earth and took earth to bottom of ocean. Mother earth cried for help to lord Vishnu and then Lord Visnu took avatar of Varah (Boar) and killed the demon. Later on Varah took the earth in his tusks and brought it up and placed back at its original position.

If we just go through it hastily then it may look like little impossible but If we really look deeper into this, there appears to be great message which is relevant now in current circumstances. Questions arise who is Asura? How come man was born with head of Boar and carried the earth on his tusk?

Asura is the person with immense power who uses his/her power for selfish/evil motives. Hiranayksha was asura who out of greed and cruelty captured entire earth. If we say he owned entire earth then it is appropriate. If we see in a day-to-day life what does Varah (pig) do? Varah eats dirt and in a way cleanses the planet. In this picture, head of Varah is shown on the body of human being. Human beings did the job of Varah and that job is of cleaning the earth. For capturing the planet, Hiranyaksha took whole humanity to spiritually very low level (as low as depth of ocean) and Lord himself had to bring it up spiritually and restore peace. This was depicted as carrying up the earth on the tusk. After defeating the demon, Lakshmi is shown on the shoulders of Varah Avtaar which is freeing the wealth captured by Hiranyaksha.

Right now there is not one but many Hiranyakshas. Major System through which they are capturing the whole planet is called as Oil, Banking and Corruption.

  1. I) OIL: - In last 150 years or so lot of oil has been discovered across the globe and for its consumption markets were developed accordingly. Very few companies rather through cross shareholdings very few people control this Oil. But due to its abundance it could not have got the value which it has today. Markets are developed in such a way that everything shall revolve around this one single commodity and its demand must be maintained and its pricing is determined by few factors and one such factor is banking. For consumption of Oil, people must travel frequently and it was impossible few decades back as major populations were living in small villages. In fact in India still many people carry their surnames which are the names of villages where they used to live. For this reason economies of villages are broken and industrialization is done or concentrated in few cities. People are forced to migrate to these cities. Bigger the city, bigger is the consumption of Oil. This cannot be achieved unless and until you have corrupt politicians/officers rather Agent is right word for them. These agents ensured that there are no good public transport systems in the city as well as around the whole area. If at all mass transport system is there then it is owned by again same lobby and it is extremely expensive (Eg – Europe). In fact in so called most developed countries there is no train network. You cannot survive in these countries if you do not have car. So more are the vehicles on the road then more is the consumption of oil and more the consumption of oil then more profits. But raw oil (crude oil) is processed in refineries and then we get different forms of fuels like Aviation, diesel, petrol etc. Wastage coming out of this process is extremely high and to make money from this wastage as well lot of R&D was done and various products were brought out of that. One such product is PLASTIC and this is one of the dirt which is spreading on our planet. Another product is chemical fertilizer which is used for farming. Most of the farm land is getting filled with this (one more dirt). Grains produced from this farm land are not good for our health and are cause of extreme serious diseases (like Cancer). Just see the PLASTIC around you and we realize how it has captured all the products. Any shop we enter and we see that everything is packaged in plastic. Every day tons and tons of waste is getting created because of this plastic. In order to tackle humongous dirt getting generated out of reckless use of plastic, many developed countries signed contracts with under developed countries so that they can dump all their dirt in under developed countries. Corrupt politicians ensured that this happens smoothly without even general people getting aware of. What is the future of plastic? Agents are talking about plastic currency (infact it is already there in few countries Ex- Israel), Plastic Roads…..

These Asuras are capturing all the wealth and polluting our mother land. It is said that lord resides in the heart of all human beings. Time has come that each and every lord takes responsibility of our mother land and cleans it and saves it before it is destroyed.

  4. Very good article to understand and start thinking. In today's world, many of us are aware of this but hesitate to speak out on it. If we observe or think, many of today's problems are also related to Hiranyaksha. When we were ruled by British, they also followed Hiranyaksha's theory. First, they were importing Tea in India for their needs. Later, they thought to grow it here. Once production started, they felt that its surplus. To adjust production, they started to give it to Indian people for free of cost. Once our public got used to it, they started charging a little and now we know the situation. Our day does not start without it. Likewise, we are used to many of such useless things which are not at all required.

Thanks Pritam for bringing up this topic. Now at least, I can start thinking what I need and what not. :)
